Can it...?
Will it...?
Thats something the fans have been pondering for the last year now. Lil wayne has supposable been set to release the ROCK/RAP album entitles REBIRTH with the last quarter of this year. Now im skeptikal to the idea of a rap feine like wayne himself actually delivering an entire album hard rock album. Mr.Carter has came a long way from the ever poplualr "BLING BLING" era to nowdays where he feels comfortable in tight jeans and flourscent Ray Ban frames. Hip Hop nowadays is focusing on trends more than ever. It seems to me that Hip Hop is more about fashion now than actual rhymes. Don't get me wrong im a lil wayne fan, but has been let down lately. I've stopped hearing the hunger he had in his rhymes. Though he still makes hot tracks, the hunger for striving to blow past jay-z is long gone in wayne. Either he has seen the reality that his dream to be a better lyricist than jay is not possible or he has just gotten caught up in the Fads of hip hop.
I'm still awaiting to hear the Rebirth album to hopefully see something new and inspiring from wayne.
Lets wait and see what he delivers.

ReplyDeleteYea Man, Im glad u feel me too
ReplyDeleteIt aint the same hunger he had a few months back
I applaud Wayne for what he's trying to do by diversifying his audience, but I heard the "Prom Queen" track and it was awful! The Carter 3 in hindsight was a major disappointment in itself, and I imagine this record will be much of the same. Wayne would be better if he stuck to hip hop but naturally people are going to flock to the record stores to get this album because they wanna see what he can do, or is trying to do. Some would argue that he already dropped a Rock/Rap album in The Carter 3,but maybe Wayne is a pioneer and trying to push the boundaries of hip hop. I do agree that Wayne is clearly in it for the pageantry of hip hop. The art is lost, and he is all into marketing himself with his fashion, award show appearances and magazine after magazine cover, and features. Speaking of which, I fear Wayne is becoming more of a feature artist than someone that can carry his own track with the work that he's done lately. Either way it goes, I think Wayne has solidified Jay-Z's position as the greatest lyricist of our recent generation, and has opened the gates for this new kid called Drake to take advantage.
